Athletics Program
The Athletics Program is now in its sixth year. For 2008-09 the squad has 18 members
Athletics squad members have been amongst the Academy's most successful as a number of them have won Australian championships. Three have also been winners of the Academy's prestigious Tim Forsyth Award as the most outstanding athlete in a particular year. We are hopeful that our Athletics Squad can continue to produce new champions.
Once again our Head Coach is Steve Cain. Steve is a former decathlon champion, so he is highly knowledgeable across the spectrum of track and field events. He is supported by Sam Fenton, a specialised strength and conditioning coach, who has successfully worked with our swimming squad for several years.
Some members of the the 2007-08 Athletics Program
Two of our previous athletes, Abbie Freestone and Zachariah Nelson, will be undertaking trainee coach roles. Abbie has sprinting and field event experience, but her specialty, in which she is a current Victorian Champion, is the pole vault. Zachariah is a multi-event competitor so he is well-versed in the technical skills of many events. Zachariah was also the Tim Forsyth Award winner for 2006.
