Board Members

The Gippsland Sports Academy's Board of Management represents the wider Gippsland community as well as the specific sports which the Academy supports.
The Board members are: Darrell White: Board Chairman, who is well known for his long career as a Councillor in the Latrobe City. Darrell has also had a long association with tennis as a player, club man, and administrator. He continues this link by being on the Tennis Advisory Panel. Robert Goldie: Vice Chairman of the Board. Robert has been a top Gippsland player in, perhaps, half a dozen sports. He provides the Board with a broad knowledge of sports administration and athlete issues across many events. Robert continues to be an active golfer and is on the Golf Advisory Panel. Tony Dell: Tony is familiar with the development of sports skills, fitness, physiology theory and life skills in young people through his teaching, at GippsTafe's Yallourn campus. As well as teaching, Tony is also the Co-ordinator of the Sport and Recreation faculty. Carolyne Boothman is a school teacher and level 1 sports trainer. Apart from her role as a coach, Carolyne has also been a leader in the Academy's athlete development programs. Carolyne is the Board's representative on the Squash Advisory Panel. Diane Blackwood: Diane and her family have strong links with swimming, and she continues this association by being the Board's representative on the Swimming Advisory Panel. Diane's daily work life is in medical science. Howard Williams: Howard is another Board member with a teaching background and a history of fostering children's fitness and sporting achievement. Associated with volleyball in many roles, Howard is the Board's representative on the Volleyball Advisory Panel. Grantley Switzer: Grantley provides a local government perspective to the Board. Employed by the Latrobe City, Grantley manages recreational and cultural services. Grantley has had an active sporting career with a continuing commitment to cricket. He opens the batting for Gormandale side. Jamey Mullen: Jamey is an alternate member for Grantley Switzer with whom he works closely. Jamey has a had a long-standing involvement in tennis and football. He still pulls on the footie boots occaisonally, and has a significant role in the Moe Football Club's teenage football program. Jeff Sawyer: Like Jane, one of the recent Board members appointed in 2005. Jeff has interests in several sports, including being president of the Morwell Bowling club. Jeff knows the region well as, in his working life, he is the Gippsland manager for a large service company. Michael Nelson: Michael is based in East Gippsland. Starting as a teacher, he has since moved into educational administration involving specialised programs for school children. Michael has taken a strong interest in athletics, hockey and swimming, dedicating much time to these sports. He is currently on the Board of Hockey Victoria. Jacqueline Madden: One of our more recent appontiments, Jacqueline has a strong involvement in swimming. She has been active in the Sale Club, and also with Gippsland Swimming, of which she is currently the president.
