Golf Program

The Golf Program first commenced in 2000 seeing professional golfer Darren Cole as head coach for an amazing 10 years. The program was managed by Peter Brown whose son Anthony is a former academy athlete and is now on the professional circuit.

We are now pleased to announce we have been fortunate to secure the services of Robert Nicholls whose history comes from spending more than 5 years working with Charlie Earp at the Royal Queensland Golf Club. Charlie has been the long term coach of Greg Norman, Wayne Grady and Ian Baker-Finch and has been Rob’s mentor for more than 15 years.

Robert has also spent time as head teaching professional at Brookwater Golf Club, Brisbane. Robert took advantage of the Queensland Academy of Sport also being based in Brookwater by working alongside Academy coaches Jim Barden and Australian Ladies Coach Ian Triggs providing him with invaluable experience on coaching elite athletes.

With a focus on younger golfers with potential for future State junior team selection the program will continue with its emphasis on technical skills, drills and practices necessary to optimise them.

The Academy's program hosts sessions at the Sale, Leongatha and Yallourn Golf Clubs and the generous support of their Committees and Club members is appreciated.

The program is also supported by all three Gippsland Golf Associations. The major sponsor of the program is local business Credit Collect which has committed to a three year term as sponsor. The Victorian Golf Foundation also assists with funding for the program on a year to year basis.
