Jessica Thompson - Gippstar - April 2017 Winners

Congratulations to Jessica Thompson from Longford for the sport of Rowing who is the Senior Rowing Captain for Gippsland Grammar Rowing Club and our Gippstar April “Open” Award Winner. Jessica’s many achievements :

  • March 2017

Jessica competed in the Victorian State Rowing Championships and finished 3rd overall (12 entrants).  This result placed Jessica as the highest ranked regional school competitor in the event.

Jessica competed in the Victorian Head of the School Girls Regatta where she finished 2nd overall in the School Girl Single Scull and was the highest ranked regional rower in the competition.

  • April 2017

Australian Open Schools Rowing Championships – 5th place overall (36 entrants) – School Single Scull.  An open field for all school aged competitors.  The result was the highest placing by any Victorian School Girl in the National event.

Selected to compete for Victoria in the Victorian State Women’s 8

Invited to attend the Australian Junior Rowing Team trials in Sydney (April 23)

  • As part of the Victorian State crew (the Junior Women’s 8), she has been selected to represent the Australian Rowing Team at the Junior World Championships in Lithuania this August 2-6.  All this while completing Year 12 at Gippsland Grammar!

The Gippstar April “Junior” Award Winner is Alex Richards from Boolarra for the sport of Archery who recently competed at the 2 day ABA National Archery Championships as well as the 2 day 3d National Archery Championships where he won Gold and was named National Champion, all at the age of 8.
